In 1904, Frank Mitchell and Charles Ness came together in Philadelphia to establish Mitchell & Ness Sporting Goods. The company specialised in stringing tennis rackets and constructing custom-made golf clubs, in addition to manufacturing uniforms for local baseball and football teams in the Philadelphia area. The Mitchell & Ness label first appeared on-field in the National Football League in 1933, when the company started making uniforms for the Philadelphia Eagles, a partnership that would continue for 30 years. Mitchell & Ness entered professional baseball in 1938, producing uniforms for the Philadelphia Athletics, as well as outfitting the Phillies a few years later.
In 1985, Mitchell & Ness received a request that would forver change the company’s direction. A customer inquired about making repairs to his game-worn 1949 St.Louis Browns jersey. This request sparked the idea to research and reproduce historically accurate vintage baseball jerseys and apparel. Thus, the Mitchell & Ness Nostalgia Co. was born.
